I used to think I understood what “rest” meant.
Take time off.
Go somewhere beautiful.
Switch off.
That’s what we’re all told.
But if I’m honest…
even after holidays, I sometimes came back still tired.
Not physically — but mentally.
Like my mind never really stopped.
And I didn’t understand why.The truth no one talks about
Most holidays are built around escape.
Escape your routine.
Escape your responsibilities.
Escape your stress.
But stress doesn’t work like that. It doesn’t disappear just because you’re sitting by
the ocean instead of at your desk.
It stays in your body.
In your nervous system.
In the way you think, sleep, and react.
Why holidays don’t fully reset you
There’s no real rhythm. And without rhythm, your body never fully relaxes.
So you return… slightly better, maybe —
but not truly reset.
What actually helps
The first time I experienced something different was in India.
There was structure.
There was intention.
There was a reason behind everything.
A doctor created a personalized program.
Treatments were scheduled.
Meals were designed for the body.
At first, it felt unusual. Then something shifted.
My mind slowed down.
My body relaxed.
And for the first time in a long time — I felt rested.
Not just “holiday rested.”
Actually rested.
The difference is simple
Traditional holidays = distraction
Intentional journeys = restoration
One keeps you busy in a different place.
The other helps your body come back into balance.
